TSP Environmental is proud to have been awarded a contract to work for the City of Ypsilanti in Michigan for work at the Water Street Redevelopment Area. Ypsilanti's city council voted to award the contract to TSP at their regular meeting on February 16, 2010. The contract award marks a significant step in the ongoing effort to return the Water Street area to general use.
Background
During the early part of the 20th century, the City of Ypsilanti was a major industrial center in southeastern Michigan. Work practices common at the time resulted in a significant amount of environmental contamination in the area of what, today, is the Water Street Redevelopment Area. According to the EPA, soil and groundwater at the site are contaminated with "a variety of hazardous substances, including trichloroethene, arsenic, PCBs, and mercury." Cleanup efforts are being supported at all levels of government including the city, the State of Michigan, and the US EPA.
Upcoming Work
TSP Environmental will be working with the City of Ypsilanti to take the next step in returning the Water Street Redevelopment Area to productive use. According to a May 2009 report, the scheduled work will "remediate some of the remaining contamination on the site, including the demolition of buildings located atop contaminated soil."
The specific work, which begins this spring, includes asbestos abatement at several vacant buildings in the Water Street area and building demolition.
Creating Jobs
TSP Environmental is committed to providing top quality environmental services to all of our customers, including the City of Ypsilanti. We are also committed to providing job opportunities as they come available for people who want to make a difference in their communities. To get our work done on time and on budget, we are looking for skilled workers and supervisors licensed in asbestos abatement.
As America continues to recover from the economic downturn, we are proud to do our part to help put Americans back to work.
