On February 16, 2009, the City of Ypsilanti City Council voted to approve awarding a contract to TSP Environmental to perform demolition and hazardous materials abatement at the Water Street Redevelopment Area in Ypsilanti, Michigan. TSP is proud to have been part of this ongoing effort to return the Water Street brownfield to general use.
The Water Street project called on many of our strengths to bring the project to successful completion. Our work included:
- Asbestos abatement and universal waste removal from sixteen buildings across the property.
- Removal and proper disposal of PCB impacted roofing material and PCB impacted soil.
- Demolition of all sixteen buildings including a house, a restaurant, a Michigan State Police post, several commercial and retail buildings, and a large industrial building.
- Excavation of contaminated soil over 30 feet in depth and management of contaminated groundwater within the excavation.
- Removal of automotive hoists and remediation of soil contaminated with hydraulic oil.
- Crushing over 12,000 tons of concrete for recycling on-site as fill material and to construct a section of the Border to Border Trail.
Our work was completed successfully by the end of 2010, leaving the City of Ypsilanti with a clean site ready for redevelopment or use as parkland.
